Supporting Educational Needs

In addition to offering a large choice of books for young people's leisure reading, Calibre are delighted to offer a range of titles that will support the educational needs of pupils studying for GCSEs or A Levels from the major examination boards, as well as books relating to the Personal, Social, Health and Education (PSHE) section of the national curriculum.

Young Calibre is part of Calibre Audio Library -  a national charity providing an audio book service to people unable to read normal print as a result of dyslexia, visual impairment or other disabilities. Our educational titles accordingly are available to individual young members or to schools (via our Group membership scheme) with pupils who cannot read books for for these reasons.

Many young people who have problems reading do not realise their full potential and may have problems accessing the National Curriculum. Calibre's audio titles can help to overcome some of the frustration this causes, can improve motivation and build self-esteem.

Audio books

  • allow young people to enjoy the pleasure of reading through an accessible format
  • broaden horizons, improves comprehension and vocabulary
  • help young people feel less isolated and more included because they can listen to the same books as their peers
  • enable children to reach their learning potential

There are customised listings of books relevant to GCSE, A Level and PSHE that can be viewed by visiting our library page or you can  "Browse by Category" using the listing below.

The CDs are proving a fantastic hit – a teacher stopped me in the corridor this morning to say what a difference it has made to the way the children with dyslexia are able to enjoy the books – thanks again!
