Dan Roche

Dan Roche

Dan Roche from Cardiff has packed a lot into his 34 years. He’s flown in a Tiger Moth, whizzed up in a helicopter and taken a few rally circuits around Silverstone. A self confessed petrolhead, he’s met Formula 1 driver Mika Hakkinen and is hoping Jenson Button will secure his second F1 Drivers’ Championship this season.

Dan, who is totally blind and suffers from Alström Syndrome, has been an adult Calibre member since 2000. Dan is a volunteer for Cardiff Vales and Valleys Institute of Blind People (CVV) but likes to relax listening to his audio books. His local library audio book service has a limited selection so he appreciates the wider choice Calibre provides. He loves crime fiction, James Bond adventures, authors such as Chris Ryan and Dick Francis, autobiographies and sports biographies.

He listens to his MP3 books on his stereo or Victor Reader Classic player which has a bookmark facility that Dan finds very useful.

Dan and his brother Paul have recently sponsored Robert Crais’ book ‘Indigo Slam’ ( Catalogue number 8579) .This features wisecracking private detective Elvis Cole on the trail of a printer whose speciality is dodgy money. Hired by the printer’s children to find their father, Cole finds himself in the crossfire between the Russian mafia and Vietnamese gunmen.

Dan’s current ambitions are to actively seek out events, adventures and exciting things to have a go at.

Dan says: “ In the future I hope Calibre continues to grow and offer the great range of titles in a variety of formats which are accessible to blind and visually impaired people.  “
