Guiding Me Home and Away: The Autobiography of Former Footballer Dave Thomas

18 December 2019

Working in partnership with the publisher Hornet Books we are delighted to add to the library Guiding Me Home and Away by former footballer Dave Thomas (13548). If you follow football you may recognize Dave’s name as he was prevalent between the 1960s and 80s at several top clubs including QPR, Everton, Burnley and Middlesborough. This is his story of those times, including references to many notable characters such as Alf Ramsey and Bill Shankly. But his story didn’t stop when he retired from professional football in 1985. He took on several different ventures including football coaching and teaching before his world changed completely after being told he was losing his sight.

This book is written like Dave is in the room telling the story to you, he is so engaging and litters the book with anecdotes and humour along the way. His description of losing his sight is frank and inspirational and he tells of how having his guide dog Hannah has transformed his life. This is a story for everyone and not just for football fans - if you think a footballing autobiography isn't for you, this book might just change your mind.
