The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson (617513) is set amongst the back drop of traditional folklore as Marinka's grandmother is a Baba Yaga who guides spirits between this world and the next. Because of this, Marinka's house is always on the move and several times a year will grow chicken legs and take off, which makes it hard for twelve-year-old Marinka to make friends. Even worse is that Marinka is being trained to be a Yaga so when the chance occurs for her to make some real friends she breaks all the rules resulting in consequences where she must put herself in danger in order to set them right. Shortlisted for the Blue Peter Book Awards 2019 this is a magical tale that is sure to entertain.

For those of you who enjoy a shorter story why not discover Make More Noise (617499) which is a collection of stories by authors such as Emma Carroll and Kiran Millwood Hargrave that celebrates inspirational girls and women. Featuring stories both imagined and those inspired by real events this is a collection that you can dip in and out of.

T S Eliot's famous collection of poetry titled Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats has delighted both adults and children for years. He imagined a follow up in which dogs were to be the star and Christopher Reid has brought this thought to life with Old Toffer's Book of Consequential Dogs (617507). This collection of poetry keeps to Eliot's writing style and is just as amusing so if you like dogs or even if you thought that poetry is not for you, then this book may just change your mind.

If you're looking for a heart-warming story this winter then A Bird Called Cat by Della Witchy (617511) would fit the bill. Two children come across a bird who can talk but why is he called Cat? This is a story of their adventures and developing friendship.
